The Field Day rules allow us to start setting up our Field Day site at 2:00pm (1800Z) on Friday, 25 June 2010 Here is our planned sequence of events for setting up our Field Day site.
Noon – Set-up crew arrives at the clubhouse. Off-load any set-up related equipment (e.g., coax, tables, fans, power cords, mast and antenna support systems, etc.) and put in the clubhouse. Review the “floor plan”. Prioritize equipment set-up (e.g., shelters, generator, fans, antenna masts, support systems, antennas, coax, etc). Safety will be discussed, stressed and practiced throughout the set-up, operational and take-down phases:
• Apply sun screen
• Drink lots of fluids
• Take breaks
• Set up will continue if there is rain but at a slower pace.
• Set up will halt if there are thunderstorms
2:00pm – Planning (knowledge of the plan), practice (familiarity of the process), and teamwork (2-3 teams working together simultaneously) should reduce the estimated amount of time required for this phase of the setup.
1. Set up Phone and Digital Shelters and Antennas –
Position and setup three shelters temporarily located in the vicinity of the phone stations.
Deliver and set up 2-3 tables. Deliver and set up a generator, power cords, and 3-4 fans.
Bring six 50 ft antenna masts to the shelters and assemble. (4 x Phone and 2 x CW)
Identify mast locations; drive three mast guy stakes per mast.
Carry the assembled masts to their proposed locations; attach mast and antenna support systems. Raise and secure each mast.
Attach antennas and coax and raise antennas.
Estimated time for this task: Approximately 3 hours
Shelters: 20-30 minutes to assemble and raise all three shelters
Tables, generator and fans: 10-15 minutes
Masts: 60 minutes to assemble four masts, attach mast and antenna support systems, raise masts.
Antennas: 60 minutes to raise six HF antennas, one VHF/UHF and one MF antenna.
2. Set up CW shelter and Antennas –
Assemble 2 masts in the shelters at the Phone Station location.
Attach mast and antenna support systems.
Identify mast locations; drive three mast guy stakes per mast.
Carry the assembled masts to their proposed locations.
Raise and secure each mast.
Attach antennas and coax and raise antennas.
Carry one shelter from the Phone Station location and place at the proposed CW operating location. Relocate the generator, tables and fans to a secure location (Clubhouse).
Estimated time for this task: Approximately 90 minutes
Masts: 30- 60 minutes to assemble six masts, attach mast and antenna support systems; raise masts; attach antennas and coax; and raise antennas.
Antennas: 20 minutes to raise 3-4 HF antennas
